Lighting crew

Last week was the winter concert for Nishimachi. My role in that, along with my friend Kaz, was to do lighting crew with a 9th grader and an 8th grader and a 3rd grade teacher. Winter concert is the whole elementary school concert with grade levels singing together. Some of the middle school joins for chorus, band and middle school flute and violin ensemble.

The lighting crew does the spot lights, the house lights (the lights that light the audience), and the stage lights. The lighting crew was led by Mr. Suzor, a third grade teacher. The people in it were Shin, Dillon, Kaz, and I. My job was to do spotlights mostly and a special job I will talk about later. Kaz's job was spotlights and house lights and the special job. Dillon's job was interesting because it is usually Mr. Suzor's job. He worked at the board of lights, so he controlled the stage lights, the riser lights, and basically the whole show. Shin role was to do the spotlights. The fun part was that we got to wear headsets. It was mostly for cues but every one did a lot of random taking because the concert is kind of slow. Mr. Suzor said that plays are more exiting.

The special job was to make it snow! For one of the chorus songs, it was about it snowing. So Kaz, a girl names Laura and I went up a cat walk above the stage and we made it snow paper! It was really fun but a bit unsuccessful. We were meant to start snowing on the first piano note, but were a bit late and so the kids said, "Look. It's snowing!" and then it started snowing. It was really fun and I did not even know there was a catwalk up there.

I think the winter concert was very successful. I had a good time and I cannot wait to do lighting crew again. It was really fun to go places that I could not go before and to find new places. It was also fun to make all the little kids exited and them not knowing where it was coming from.
