At first I expected the dance to be in the gym but it was in a place called the MS commons (about the size of a class room) and the hall outside of the MS commons. I thought it would be less crowded but almost the whole middle school was there (around 100 people). There were lots of lights that I did not know that the school had. They had three black lights, a disco ball, a penguin night-light and a whole lot of flashing lights. Now remember, this was a room the size of a classroom with 80 students jumping up and down like crazy. I was actually thinking of not going because I thought it was a bring-a-date kind of dance but then I realized most of my friends were, so I went. That was a good choice because my earlier thought was wrong.
The entrance fee was 200 yen or 1.6 dollars. A piece of pizza was also 200 yen and a drink was 150 yen or 1.2 dollars. It was a little pricey but it was a fundraiser for Cambodia. But you could get the combo set (not for me) and you get entrance, one slice of pizza and one drink for 500 yen or 4.1 USD and you save 50 yen. The pizza was not my favourite kind (because it had mayonnaise on it) but after 2 hours of dancing it hit the spot. They also sold candy, rice crackers and the pricing was really flexible. The theme was glow in the dark so they also sold glow-sticks. The original deal was 1 for 100 yen but then for me they gave me 3 for 100 so I told my friends about the deal and then my friend got 4 for 100!
The thing is, almost no one actually knew what the dance was to that particular song was so everyone just got in a circle and started jumping up and down. Sometimes a grade would do a huddle and someone would go in the middle and show off their moves. One of the new kids was a really good breakdancer!
I really can’t wait for 6th grade’s turn to host the dance. I just hope I don’t have to do the pizza sales because there was this one kid that had to do it the whole time and he was so bored. I hope I get to do the DJ or glowstick sales.
The MS dance was really fun and I am exited for the next one. Remember to put your e-mail up top to get a notice every time an exiting story has arrived!
